The Truth About Food Insecurity

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) defines food insecurity as “a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active and healthy life”. Food Insecurity can  impact anyone at any time. Even a minor change of circumstance, such as an unexpected bill, may leave a family or individual without money for food.

There is no one face of food insecurity. Hunger doesn’t just affect those who are unemployed. There are many working middle class families that also struggle to provide an adequate amount of food. The elderly often struggle in silence, without family closeby to help. People are often afraid to ask for help, offer to help them anyway. You can visit us for fresh food to bring to those in need.

If you or someone you know is struggling with food insecurity, we’re here to help. Please share our Food Pantry hours on your social media pages and email us with any questions that you may have. Should you be in a position to help others, please consider donating to and volunteering at The Charity Guild.
